Systems engineer - Reusable transportation vehicle

Exotrail is hiring!

Exotrail is a space company based in France. We are developing mobility solutions for an agile space.

Our mission is to allow small satellite constellations to move in space, so that we can optimise their deployment, increase their performances and reduce space pollution. Thanks to this, a new world of telecommunication, Earth observation and space exploration will arise.

Our mobility solutions range from highly flexible high-thrust propulsion systems for small satellites (ExoMG™), mission simulation and operation software (ExoOPS™), and orbital transfer vehicles (SpaceVan™).

Exotrail launched in 2017 and has secured over 20M€ from prestigious Venture Capital funds and public grants. Our team consists of 50+ people who are passionate about disrupting the space industry. We operate out of two locations: Toulouse and Massy (suburb of Paris).

This is only the beginning. Small satellites equipped with propulsion will be able to deliver new space services and will entirely disrupt the space industry by servicing, repairing, assembling and manufacturing spacecrafts directly in orbit. Join us and be part of our great ambition!

Job Description

Exotrail is looking for a Systems Engineer to prepare the future of its space transportation vehicle. The main role of this person will be to create and animate a roadmap on the development a servicing vehicle based on the orbital transfer vehicle already in development in Exotrail, as well as perform systems engineering tasks. The main focus of the early developments on this project will be on rendezvous technologies and satellite architecture.

The current team is composed of several systems engineers working mainly on the first iteration of the SpaceVan. Your role will be to study and develop the mid-term iterations of the vehicle so as to make it reusable. This task will be shared with a program manager.

Your main tasks will be:

  • create and animate the roadmap of development for a reusable servicing platform
  • manage and perform the system engineering tasks of the project
  • develop rendezvous technologies necessary for reusable spacecraft and in-orbit-servicing
  • potentially animate the technological aspect of an international consortium
  • report on the project to the management of Exotrail

You will work directly with the VP of In-Orbit Services and with the Lead Engineer of the In-Orbit Services team.

A good technical knowledge on satellite rendezvous (AOCS, vision-based navigation, avionics) will significantly improve Exotrail's interest.

In addition, and as importantly, the candidate must have the following mindset:

  • interest in highly technical work, as well as good project management skills
  • pragmatism, risk-taking and accountable
  • good communication skills with fluent English
  • willingness to join the dynamic, vibrant, demanding environment of a start-up
